Runner of the Week
Armando Chavez
Last year Armando spent the summer doing very little running.  He started out on JV and worked his way up to the 5th man on Varsity at the Region III meet.  This summer he logged over 300 miles, and recently placed 3rd on the team in our first time trial.  In his first race of the season, Armando was only 38 seconds away from a PR.

Runner of the Week
Kirby Shepherd
Last spring, Kirby put up some very impressive times for a freshman (2:04/4:34).  This summer Kirby continued his hard work, and logged over 320 miles.  Kirby narrowly outkicked teammate Tim Cude for the win, running a 17:49.  Kirby picked up his first Varsity win, and looks to be in contention for a state berth.   Kirby is watching his hard work pay off, as he ran a minute and a half faster than he did last year.

Runner of the Week
Tim Cude
Tim Cude ran a much smarter race after going out at BCHS record pace at the Nederland Dual Meet.  After expending so much energy, he didn't have much left in the tank at the end and watched as teammate Kirby Shepherd picked up the win.  This week, he ran a much smarter race and was narrowly beaten by new region III rival Harvinder Signh.  Tim has a great chance of catching him by the end of the season if he continues to keep working hard.

Runner of the Week
Brandon Simoneaux
In MS Brandon Simoneaux was a successful runner with loads of talent.  As an eighth grader he ran a 5:13 mile on a very tough Pleasure Island course.  So far in HS, he hasn't been the most dedicated runner in the summer, and he wasn't seen at practice this summer nearly as often as he should have been.  After starting the year off on JV, Brandon got fired up and motivated to regain his spot on Varsity.  Today he told me, "I think I'm back Coach."  Well I don't know if he is back yet, but he is well on his way.

Runner of the Week
Armando Chavez
Hard work has taken Armando Chavez places he never thought he would go.  He logged over 500 miles this season, and was one of the few runners that didn't let Ike keep him from his training.  Armando lead his hurricane depleated team to a respectable showing on the Region III course.  With the way this sophmore works, Armando looks to have even more success in the years to come.

Runner of the Week
Sawyer Hogan and Kyle Prosperie
Sawyer and Kyle made their return to BC CC this week.  After spending much of the past three weeks cleaning up his and his grandma's homes, Kyle returned and almost ran his best time of the season.  Kyle's first race on Varsity was on this course at the State Meet his freshmen year.  This senior hopes to end his CC career the same place.  Sawyer came back to BC shortly before this meet.  He also ran close to his best time of the season, after not being able to train with his teammates for much of the past 3 weeks.  It was nice getting more of the guys back this week, as we work towards our goal of returning to the State Meet.

25.  Eric Chesson 20:06.24
35.  Nathan McAnelly 20:53.50

Runner of the Week
Justin Reynolds
Justin is a rare runner when it comes to BCHS.  As a senior, he's come out for his first Cross Country season.  After taking up CC primarily to get into shape for basketball, Justin has suprise even himself by earning a spot on the Varsity squad.  He told me right before the hurricane that he thought he could keep up with the top 5 guys, and this week he gave it a try.  He hung on for 2 miles, and and fell off a little on his way to a PR.  The basketball court will definitely seem a lot shorter after CC is over.

Runner of the Week
Tim Cude
Last Spring, Tim Cude placed 3rd in both the 3200 and 1600 at the Region III track meet.  This weekend he finished behind Hawley and Leos once again.  Several Region III schools were here this weekend, and only four region competitors ran faster than Tim this weekend.  Like many people from BC, Tim is displaced from his home.  He comes to school from Vinton everyday, and has not let it affect his running.  Tim leads the mens team in mileage (650), and with hard work and a little luck he'll lead them to State as well.

Runner of the Week
The Long Red Line
Saturday October 25 = District Title Number Ten (8 out of the last 9) For The Cardinals.  Today was a great effort by our guys.  Our goal was to place all seven girls in the top 10, and bring home both the team and invidual titles.  Our seventh man placed eighth, Tim won the race, and we won yet another team title.  This has been a great year.  I know it has been a trying year, but keep on working for two more weeks.  You have a chance to make back to back trips to State.  Don't take anything for granted.  We're not going to make it just because we did last year.  We have to earn it all over again.  Give me two more hard weeks, and I'll give you two nights in Round Rock!!  Great Job Guys!!

(go to camp page for the rest of the times)

Runner of the Week
Mary Nguyen
Last year Mary didn't run as much as she needed to during the summer.  This summer was a completely different story as she logged over 200 miles.  She ran almost TWO MINUTES faster than she did last year at this meet.  In fact, it wan't until facing the stiff competition at the A&M meet in late September that she even ran that fast.  Building on what began in track season, Mary Nguyen has become a hard worker in practice.  With her leading the way, the Lady Cardinals look to have a great shot at attaining their goal this year.

Dual vs. Nederland - 8/14

Runner of the Week
The Top Five
After spending a while looking at times from last year, and trying to select one runner of the week, I found myself in a familiar position.  It was just too good of a team performance to pick just one runner.  After winning our Nederland dual meet with a perfect score (placing 1-5), the girls are seeing the results of their hard work.  Mary, Jess, Meagan, Ariel, and Faith have a combined 1,036 miles this summer.  The have set a goal of bring the girls team back to State (last went in 2003).  If they continue to work hard, they have a great shot.

Runner of the Week
Jessica Franklin

Jessica Franklin dipped below 14 minutes for the first time this season.  After not running very much last summer, Jessica got dedicated and put in over 250 miles this summer.  After watching the guys at State last year, she and the other girls decided that they wanted to get there this year.  Today she helped lead her team to their first big win of the season.  Jessica, and the rest of the girls team, are working 10 times harder than they did last year are they are seeing the results of their hard work.  I told the girls that the only way we could go to State is if we have five girls under 13 minutes.  Well now Jess and Mary are less than a minute away.  I'm confident they will be able to get there, and I know they can lead 3 more girls to come with them.

Runner of the Week
Faith Rowe
One of the worst feelings you can have as a runner is starting a race when you know you are sick.  You already feel pretty bad, and you know that running is going to make you feel even worse.  Faith Rowe has been feeling sick since the evacuation, and was very worried about how she would be able to run in her state.  She told me she would not be in the top five, and wasn't sure if she should run.  In a very close race with Barbers Hill, Faith stepped and delivered for her teammates.  Not only was she our fifth girl, but she outkicked BH's fifth girl and beat her by one spot.  Faith reminded us all that your body is always capable of more than your mind thinks it is.

Runner of the Week
Mary and Jess
These two sophmore girls have set the tone for the girls team this season.  They have lead by example and worked hard all summer long.  All season we have been saying that if we were going to make it to State, then we had to have five girls run under 13:00 for 2 miles.  Mary and Jess finally cracked the 13 minute mark, and they both ran a 12:54 on the Region III course.  The girls have a great chance to make it to State for the first time since 2003.

291.  Lan Vu 14:53.59
31st out of 44 teams

Runner of the Week
Meagan Shockley
In her first race since the hurricane, Meagan ran a PR of 13:53 despite everything we've been through.  She was the only BC runner to PR in spite of all the hills.  Meagan is the only freshman on the Varsity this year, and is running much better than she ever did in MS.  Meagan's new PR brings her less than a minute away from her goal time of 12:59.  If we can get five girls under 13:00 at Regionals, we'll have a great chance of qualifying for State Meet.

Runner of the Week
Ariel Chesson
All of the girls ran great this week as they were narrowly defeated by Barbers Hill.  After beating them at Nederland, Hurricane Ike really took a toll on our training.  We faced them at McNiel and they killed us.  Coming into the last 300 meters I told Ariel, Faith, and Meagan they had to win their pack for us to have a chance of beating Barbers Hill.  Ariel took off, and Faith and Meagan went with her.  With Ariel leading the way, they all finished in front of their pack.  We ended up losing by 1 point, but it still a great performance.

Jessica Franklin
We all woke up @ 4:30am to travel all the way up to Lufkin to face the Hudson Hornets.  All year long we've said if we can compete with them, we have a shot of qualifying for State.  Jessica really stepped up and lead the team as she placed 11th in a very competitive 4A/5A field.  She finished ahead of Hudson's number one runner as Mary and Meagan both finished ahead of Hudson's number two.  With Jessica leading the way, Hudson beat us by only 6 points.  Three more weeks of hard work, and we'll have a great shot at making it to Round Rock.
